Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered. Your Future Supported.
Q: Do you offer esthetician licensing?
No. Aesthetic Academy of New Mexico is an advanced training academy, not a state-authorized licensing school. To become a licensed esthetician in New Mexico, you must attend a state-approved esthetics program and complete the required hours through the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
While we do not offer licensing, we do provide advanced certifications and continuing education for licensed professionals and students.
Future apprenticeship opportunities may be added — stay tuned for updates.
Q: Can esthetics or cosmetology students participate in your classes?
Yes! If you are currently enrolled in an esthetics or cosmetology program and have completed at least 100 hours, you are eligible to join many of our classes.
This gives students the chance to build advanced skills early and gain confidence long before graduating.
Q: Do I need to be an esthetician to become a laser technician in New Mexico?
No. New Mexico does not require a person to be a licensed esthetician to become a laser technician; however, you must meet specific requirements depending on the type of laser practice.
For enrollment in our Laser Technician Program, we require a brief interview to confirm:
You meet New Mexico’s training expectations
You understand the scope and supervision requirements
You are prepared for the program curriculum
Laser regulations vary by device classification, so we help ensure you're aligned with NM standards before you enroll.
Q: Do I need to be an esthetician or cosmetologist to take all of your classes?
Not necessarily. Several of our courses are open to anyone wanting to start a career in beauty.
You do not need a professional license for:
Spray Tanning
Laser Fundamentals (see laser section for requirements)
Permanent Makeup Brows (PMU)
Saline Tattoo Removal
Students as young as 16 may enroll in select classes with parental consent.
Q: Are nurses or medical professionals eligible for your classes?
Absolutely. Many of our courses are appropriate for nurses, NPs, PAs, and other medical professionals entering aesthetics.
If you are new to the field, we recommend starting with our Facial Basics Course, which covers treatment room setup, product usage, supply management, and foundational facial techniques.
Important:
Any procedures regulated by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists (such as esthetic facial treatments, waxing, etc.) must be performed only by licensed estheticians or cosmetologists.
We can help clarify which services fall under the board and which are open to medical professionals.
Q: How big are the classes?
To deliver an exceptional hands-on experience, our class sizes are intentionally small.
Up to 12 students for most in-person classes
Up to 4 students for PMU Powder Brows or Spray Tanning
Small virtual groups for Zoom classes
This ensures personal attention, instructor access, and higher-quality education.
Q: If I attend via Zoom, can I still work on a model?
Yes! Virtual students participate just like in-person students — including working on a live model when required.
You’ll receive step-by-step coaching in real time to ensure success.
Q: Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer payment options through PayPal, allowing you to spread your investment into manageable payments. Once approved, PayPal handles the payment schedule directly with you.
Q: Are classes tax-deductible?
In most cases, yes. Education, supplies, and travel expenses can be considered business deductions.
Always consult your tax advisor to ensure you document everything properly.
Q: Will I receive support after class?
Absolutely — and our continued support is one of the things that sets us apart.
You will receive:
Ongoing instructor support after class
Access to our private student community
The ability to retake your course twice within one year
Continued guidance to help you master your skills
We are deeply committed to your long-term success.
Q: Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. After completing your training, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion — perfect for insurance, portfolios, and professional presentations.
Q: Can I bring snacks or lunch to class?
Yes! We encourage it.
We provide water, tea, and coffee. A refrigerator and microwave are available for student use.
Q: Who teaches the classes?
All classes are taught by licensed estheticians, industry specialists, and experienced educators who actively work in the field.
Every instructor is selected based on their expertise and ability to deliver top-tier education.
Q: Do you offer refunds?
We do not offer refunds.
However, we understand things happen. In case of emergencies, you may reschedule for the next available class.
This policy is outlined in your registration paperwork so expectations are clear and consistent.
Q: Which classes can I take without a license or medical background?
The following courses are open to anyone (ages 16+ with parental consent):
Spray Tanning
Laser Fundamentals
PMU Brows
Saline Tattoo Removal
These programs are ideal for those wanting to start their beauty career without traditional schooling.
